To write a good assessment question in computer science, as in any area, it is important to be mindful of what you intend to test. Questions that appear to be testing one topic, may actually be testing others in the process. If the questions can’t pinpoint a student area of need, then what good are they? The discussion below covers the most common types of questions used to assess student knowledge, and how questions can be formatted to maximize their effectiveness.
